كلية المنهل للدراسات الإسلامية
AL MANHAL ISLAMIC COLLEGE

Reg.No.MRCA/13/6/BT/15
Pokker Road
Eravur. 06
Sri Lanka

Background and Location of the College

Srilanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean consisting three major communities, being Sinhalese the majority, Hindus the first and Muslims the second minority containing 10% of the country’s population.

Eravur, where the College is situated, is entirely a Muslim village of 30,000 population in the Batticaloa district in the Eastern Province. Most of the villagers were successful farmers until the terrorist activities against Muslims were broken out in this region in 1985. Subsequently, the Muslims losing paddy fields, their only livelihood in the hands of the terrorists, were forced to become daily laborers. As a result of terrorist activities, most of the villagers still suffer remaining under the poverty line, though there seems a slight improvement in the education sector in the recent past.

There is a considerable amount of learned persons of Islamic Sharia in this village; yet to note painfully, shirk and bid’ah activities are on increase and the propagation against such activities was completely absent until around one and a half years.

For one and a half years, all the praise is due to Allah, pure Islamic preaching based on Al-Quran and As-Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) and propagation against shirk and bid’ah activities has begun with the active participation of a few learned persons of Islamic sharia and a number of pious youths, united under an organization namely “Islamic Centre”.

The Islamic Centre has been playing since its birth a vital role in carrying the true message of Islam towards each and every individual in the village. Accordingly, the following da’wa activities are carried out by the Islamic Centre:

Weekly Islamic lecture for men every Friday evening
Weekly Islamic class for school students every Sunday evening
Weekly Islamic preaching for women every Saturday evening
Issuing handbills on various Islamic topics and selling CDs
Individual visits targeting those engaged in shirk and bid’ah activities
Tharbiya classes twice a month

With the Grace of Almighty Allah, hundreds of Muslims who were engaged in shirk or bid’ah activities have started returning towards righteous path due to the collected da’wa activities as mentioned above.

However, to shaken our hearts, hundreds of Muslims especially those learned Islam at traditional Arabic colleges, not being aware of the true Islamic message of Al Quran and As Sunnah, put various obstacles by means of counter-preaching and some times practicing violent activities against us and our pure da’wah activities!

In addition, some ‘sufi’ and errant movements such as Kadiriyya, Bareleviyya, shadhuliyya, sheeah, etc have started Arabic colleges accommodating hundreds of students to teach them elements opposite true Islamic teachings. At this juncture, it was an unavoidable and compulsory need to start an Islamic college to provide true Islamic teachings based on Al Quran and As Sunnah. At this backdrop, an Islamic college was started with the help of Allah Almighty on 27th of Safar 1430A.H. (23rd February 2009 A.D)

The following causes have impressed us to start this college in spite of several Arabic colleges in this region :

1. Absence of an Arabic college to provide Islamic education based on pure Al Quran and As Sunnah along with school education.

2. Some sufi and errant movements such as sheeah, kadiriyya and Bareleviyya are running Arabic colleges, producing every year a number of graduates to preach against the pure da’wah based on Al Quran and As Sunnah.

3. Get rid of shirk and bid’ah activities found elsewhere here in this region and create a pure Islamic atmosphere.

Functioning of the College

The course duration of this college is of five years. Students studying at government schools in the years seven and eight are allowed to this college after an oral test. They attend the college after school and receive spiritual education and school subjects such as Maths, Science, English and Computer. As the spiritual education, the students learn here thafseer, hadeeth, thawheed, uloomul Quran, usoolul hadeeth, usoolul fiqh, Arabic language and literature, etc.

At the end of the fifth year of the course duration, the students insha Allah will sit for the O/L Examination conducted by the government of Sri Lanka country wide. Then they will be able to continue their study at schools in the streams of science, maths, commerce and management, etc.

Doing so, we intend to see in the future insha Allah a set of daaees who will carry the true message, being doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc with the grace and help of Allah.

Objectives of the College

We have intended to achieve the following objectives :

Create a disciplinary and well educated of pure Al Quran and As Sunnah.

Produce devoted and pious ‘daaees’ to carry the true Islamic message to every nook and corner of this region.
Build up better family structure where Islamic atmosphere prevails.

Spread Islamic education tied up with Spiritual and material.

Immediate Requirements of the College

This Islamic College founded only to teach Islam in its pure form based on Al Quran and As Sunnah to the future generation has the following requirements to be immediately met.

Since the College is currently functioning in a temporary hut in a land owned to an individual in this village, the requirements mentioned below are to be immediately met for the smooth functioning of the College :

1. A land to accommodate the buildings of the College.

2. Sufficient buildings to accommodate class rooms, prayer room, library, staff room, etc

3. Regular monthly salary for the teaching staff.

4. A library containing books, magazines for teachers and students to refer to.

5. Furniture for the class rooms and library.

To meet these requirements with the help of the people of this region, most of whom are under the poverty line, is beyond the belief in a village where the majority people are constantly opposing our pure da’wah activities. Even a few wealthy persons available here restrain from extending their financial assistance out of the opposing activities because of their ignorance of true Islam.

Therefore, we kindly and in the name of Allah request the Muslim brotheren willing to see a pure Islamic atmosphere everywhere in the world devoid of and free from all ‘shirk’ and bid’ah activities to extend their utmost support and assistance in any form and to help us to create a situation in this region to worship only Allah Almighty and to follow the last prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) by running this college and producing a set of da’ees carrying this true message of Islam.

May Almighty Allah be with you forever and reward ‘hasanaath’ in both worlds for all your good deeds.

Dear Brothers –in-Islam,

Assalamu Alaikum warahmathullah

Request for Financial Assistance for the Islamic college

We wish to bring to your kind consideration that we have started an Islamic college to provide true Islamic teachings based on Al Quran and As Sunnah.
some ‘sufi’ and errant movements such as Kadiriyya, Bareleviyya, shadhuliyya, sheeah, etc fpund in this region have started Arabic colleges accommodating hundreds of students to teach them elements opposite true Islamic teachings. At this juncture, it was an unavoidable and compulsory need to start an Islamic college. At this backdrop, this Islamic college was started with the help of Allah Almighty.
It is a part time Islamic College. There are 35 students and 3 instructors to teach Islamic sharia and 3 teachers to teach school subjects namely English, Maths, and Science. For further details of the college, a proposal plan has been annexed herewith for your further perusal.
At the outset, we face financial plight to run this college smoothly. Since this village is mostly of poor people affected vastly by the terrorism in the past years, it is a difficult to collect money from the villagers.
Therefore, we kindly and in the name of Allah request the Muslim brothers willing to see a pure Islamic atmosphere everywhere in the world devoid of and free from all ‘shirk’ and bid’ah activities, to extend their utmost support and financial assistance in any form and to help us to create a situation in this region to worship only Allah Almighty and to follow the last prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) by running this college and producing a set of da’ees carrying this true message of Islam.
May Almighty Allah accept all your good deeds and grant you good rewards in both worlds.
